• Ikea hack // 1k34 h4ck

We wanted to add something to our little kitchen corner. I came up with the idea of using a 2×2 IKEA Kallax cabinet (202.758.14) and a matching drawer insert (702.866.45), assembling them in such a way that the two drawers are placed side by side.

To achieve this, I had to saw the side support panel of the drawer insert in half, and instead of installing the middle shelf of the Kallax in its usual central position, I aligned it closer to the upper section.

This way, we got a small but functional work surface, two small drawers, and enough space underneath the drawers to finally place the trash bins. But where would it fit? The only possible spot was in front of the fridge, so that’s where it ended up.

The upper part of the refrigerator can still be opened.

Unfortunately, the freezer can’t. So I mounted small swivel castors to the bottom of the whole construction. This way, when we need access to the freezer, the entire unit can be rolled aside and then moved back into place.
